Name: Lower Extremity  
Definition: The two limbs extending downward from the pelvic girdle.
Structure: Each lower extremity has three parts; the thigh, the leg, and the foot. Each is comprised of a skeletal component of 26 bones.


Function: The lower limbs carry the entire weight of the body. In most species of frogs and toads, and most tetrapods, they are specialized as thick, heavy structures for locomotion, weight bearing and stability.
