Structure: Thyroid stimulating hormone production is stimulated by thyroid releasing hormone from the hypothalamus, and by cold temperature and by pregnancy. It is inhibited by thyroid hormones acting on the hypothalamus and the hypophysis, and by somatostatin, called GHIH.
Function: Thyroid stimulating hormone signals the thyroid galnd to manufacture and release thyroid hormone.
