Structure:
Optic lobes of the brain are connected to the eyes by the optic nerve,
Cranial Nerve I. This nerve is an
extension of the optic lobes, with no intermediate cells between the brain
and the eyes. The optic lobes are large in animals like frogs that depend
on vision as a major input for interacting with their environment. Connections
through the thalamus to the brainstem,
and to the motor nerves carry messages
for correct responses.
Function:
The optic lobes receive and interpret visual stimuli from the eyes.
