 Structure:
The diencephalon, the posterior part of the forebrain, includes the thalamus,
the pineal gland, and the hypothalamus.
Function:
The diencephalon, connects directly with the cerebrum,
receiving and sending signals from the sensory and motor nervous systems
through the thalamus. In amphibians, the pineal
gland is not known to be important, and the hypothalamus
regulates the autonomic (visceral) nervous
system, and the endocrine systems,
through the hypophysis.
