Structure: The vagus nerve connects several nerve centers in the medulla with the areas of the mouth, the pharynx, and most of the visceral organs. It carries motor, and autonomic nerve signals. It is the only cranial nerve that enters the trunk, where it spreads over many organs.
Function: Vagus nerve motor functions include the stimulation of smooth muscles contraction of the respiratory, the circulatory, the digestive, the reproductive, and the excretory systems.
