| Definition:
Planet Earth is the only celestial body with known living organisms. |
|
Structure:
The earth is the only known planet with the proper mixture of geological
and atmospheric environments, or ecosystems, to support life. ItÕs
distance from the sun allows an environment with gravity that is compatible
with life, and temperature and water compatible for sustaining the many
populations of organisms that live on the planet earth. As one of their
activities, scientists, begining with Aristotle, have organized their findings
to reach a common language, or vocabulary. They decided that the best major
divisions of science were of physical sciences, earth sciences, aeronautical
and space sciences, and biological sciences.
Function:
Planet Earth provides a home for biological organisms through its' geological,
and atmospheric environments.
